Ever increasingly people are caring less about the facts while caring more about how things make them feel. It is a growing issue throughout the world and social media is not helping. Welcome to social media, where the people are the commodity.
We are each guilty of it. We scroll through countless numbers of pages and sites, clicking likes, thumbs-up, hearts, swiping right, etc. and not even paying attention to the things destroying us. We have allowed the internet to become our sirens at sea.
We are self-soothing through the trauma that is occurring and we are fooling ourselves into thinking it will get better on its own, or that the government can save us.
Have we grown custom to comfort and clogging our brains with nonsense?
Take, for instance, the story of “Cecil the Lion,” as seen everywhere on the internet and heard at every water cooler conversation. Is the death of a lion the most important issue in the world right now?
The real reason there is outrage and discussion on this subject is because people find it too difficult to discuss the real issues that need to change; those issues could appear faux pas. It would cause too much of a heated debate to talk about the things really tearing both this world and this country apart.
Is the poaching of a lion such a serious issue that airline companies need to change their policies of transporting hunting trophies? Delta Air Lines, Air France, and several others seem to think it is.
Or is it that they are following social media numbers in order to cater towards the greater mass appeal? The same as Amazon pulling all Confederate memorabilia? (This is not to say that these things are not a problem, only to consider the influences.)
If these issues were considered immoral by those companies prior to the news media and social media outrage, why did they allow them in the first place?
The good thing this teaches us: social media works for the people’s best interest when we use it properly!
We can begin to shape the world and this nation into a better place if we each start showing more interest in the things that are killing us, hurting us, taking from us, and preventing our pursuit of liberty. Share more of THESE things. Scroll through countless numbers of pages and sites, click like, thumbs-up, hearts, swipe right, etc. Make the government and companies listen to us, We the People.
We have the tools available, we have just been using them insufficiently. It is not going to be easy, but together we can do this.
Swipe right for liberty!
